A Memorable Summer Visit to Selene’s Zhuhai Shipyard
This summer, the Jet-Tern Marine (JTM) shipyard in Zhuhai welcomed multiple folks from the USA, marking an exciting return to international visits post-pandemic. On July 30th, we had the pleasure of hosting Chris Powell, the proud owner of Selene 6050, his representative Mark Tilden, and Brian Taylor, the Selene Seattle dealer. Their visit highlighted the deep connection and collaboration between our team and the Selene community.
With the easing of travel restrictions, our guests could take full advantage of the efficient journey via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. This modern marvel of infrastructure cuts the travel time from Hong Kong to the Selene shipyard in Zhuhai to just 90 minutes, a significant improvement over the previous four-hour trip via ferry.
During their visit, Brian Taylor meticulously conducted the final inspection checklist for the Selene 4548, ensuring every detail met our exacting standards before delivery.
Meanwhile, Chris Powell and Mark Tilden engaged in a productive discussion with Candy and Arina, the daughters of our founder, Howard Chen. It was a special moment for Brian and Mark, who recalled meeting Arina as a young girl at the Selene Rendezvous in Seattle’s Roche Harbor. Now, as a university graduate and a project manager at JTM, Arina works alongside Candy, contributing her expertise to the family business.
Chris and Mark’s meeting with Electrician Manager Lu Yang provided valuable insights into the Mechanic, Electric, and Plumbing (MEP) systems of the Selene 6050. The face-to-face discussions allowed for a thorough review of the boat’s specifications and progress. Howard Chen, renowned for his visionary designs, impressed Chris with an impromptu sketch of the yacht’s interior concept, which was later brought to life by the JTM engineering team through advanced 3D renderings. This collaborative effort solidified mutual understanding and ensured that the yacht’s design perfectly matched Chris’s vision.
We also had our N. America Distributor President of Selene Yachts Americas, Wayne Goldman along with Technical Director Dylan Hildebrand visiting the yard to look at builds in process, meet with the team at the shipyard to discuss design updates and also show a potential customer the yard and options for a boat they are considering.
Our guests were also treated to the best of Zhuhai’s hospitality. The Zhuhai Marriott Hotel, conveniently located just 20 minutes from the shipyard, offered them a comfortable stay and a delightful breakfast each morning. Howard Chen extended his warm hospitality by hosting a traditional Chinese lunch and taking folks out for local cuisine at dinner.
As their visit came to an end, a door-to-door minivan service whisked our guests directly from the JTM shipyard to Hong Kong Airport, capping off a visit that was both productive and enjoyable.
Zhuhai, a city where modernity meets natural beauty, left a lasting impression on our visitors. The stunning beach and the iconic Zhuhai Opera House (Sun-Moon Shell) added to the memorable experience. Chris, Mark, and Brian expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome and the fruitful discussions during their visit. Chris even mentioned that he plans to return with his wife next time.
At Jet-Tern Marine, we are always delighted to welcome Selene owners and dealers to our shipyard. These visits are not just about inspecting yachts; they are about building lasting relationships and sharing the passion that drives the Selene community forward.
